Podcasts Direct From Studio B

The mashup podcasts always seem to be the most popular, so heres a new one for ya!

**CAUTION** Theres a bit of explicit language near the beginning of this one. I didnt realize we'd started recording, but Matt liked it, so we left it in.

I've been meaning to do this for the last couple of Christmases. Everyone who knows me well knows how much I love Christmas music. My friend Mary asked me what my favorite Xmas songs are, and it finally inspired me to put this cast together. These are my favorite Christmas songs. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

5. I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake

Be it heaven or hell, the Christmas we get, we deserve. Cynical, but sobering, and somehow comforting.

4. If I Get Home On Christmas Day - Elvis Presley

Some critics say this was the best vocal ever recorded by The King.

3. Christmas In Hollis - Run-DMC

"Each and every year we bust Christmas carols!" This song is so much fun. I dare you not to sing along.

2. Baby Please Come Home - U2

A much more raw version than the Darlene Love original.

1. Step Into Christmas - Elton John

Not only my favorite Elton John song, but quite possibly my All-Time Favorite song of any kind. I could hear it every day and never get tired of it.

I did an annual Christmas show on Rock 106.1 in Gallup, New Mexico from 2002 to 2005. My PD, Blas Saucedo knew how much I loved Christmas tunes and asked me if I wanted to do a full hour. We liked it so much that the next year we decided to expand the show to 2 hours. We put together some awesome rock Xmas tunes. This was the last Christmas show I did in Gallup, the Saturday before Christmas in 2005. This aint your Grandma's Christmas carols!

On June 25, 2009 we lost Michael Jackson. For a long time before that day I'd become used to hearing his name and rolling my eyes at whatever outrageous behavior he was exhibiting. It was like I'd forgotten that I'd grown up listening to his music. Like I hadnt loved and played his music on the radio throughout my entire career. Putting this podcast together was much more of an emotional journey than I ever thought it would be. I reacquainted myself with what Michael was all about, which was much, much more than just music.

What would your personal radio station sound like? What would a radio station sound like if YOU programmed it to what YOU wanted to hear? Not as a radio person worried about building an audience, but as its only listener, the only person you are trying to please.

Theres no annoying disc jockey chatter in this one, we just rolled the tunes. We made an automated liner for the beginning of each set. You can make your own right here: http://public.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

If there ever is a "Dave FM" or a "Matt FM", the first 5 songs might sound a lot like this.

Matt FM

Dave FM

Everyone has that quirky artist they love that nobody else ever heard of. I think radio people just have more of them. Matt Carter and I take an extended look at some of those songs that we ran across over the years.

For our second podcast, we used Skype and hope you enjoy the enhanced audio deliciousness!

You know the ones. Someone in the sales department probably came up with it. Didnt care if it was right for the station, they had an angle to sell it. Of course, once it was sold it was up to programming to figure out how to make it work. And a lot of times, it didnt.

This podcast is about the WORST radio promotions, remotes, and/or giveaways that Dave North and Matt Carter have been involved in!!!!

Dave North worked at top 40 radio station WAZY during two decades on three different occasions.  Twice when it was the monster in the Lafayette, Indiana radio market and once when it was a mere glimmer of its legendary status.

I'm Matt Carter, Dave and I start with a bit of a preview of what is to come at Studio B and get into Dave's three runs at WAZY as an air talent spanning two decades.

For fans of the Swinging Singles Report, Hit Radio in the 80s, and a frank history of one DJ's adventure working at his dream radio station...this is the podcast for you
